Welcome to the official blog of the International Living Room Pianists Guild (ILRPG)!
What is a "living room pianist" anyway and who coined this term?
A living room pianist is, generally speaking, a person who plays the piano in one's own house (preferably in a living room) and who is not a "concert pianist" in the traditional sense of making an income from public concerts. A living room pianist may be of any level, which includes beginning through advanced. The most important prerequisite in being labeled a "living room pianist", in addition to playing the piano in one's own living room, is that one should have a passion and love for practicing and playing the piano as well as discussing piano and music related issues on this blog. The term "living room pianist" was coined by me, Cory Hall, in 2008 around the time I established my YouTube channel under the name "BachScholar". I felt that it was time that we 90% of pianists who do not concertize for a living had a voice and establish recognition and presence on YouTube and the world wide web.

Cory,
ReplyDeleteI am a fellow "living room pianist" and I have been watching your videos on YouTube for quite some time. I generally watch them to hear how the song is supposed to sound. ;) You have a great talent.
I just recently started playing again after nearly a decade and a half without a piano. I'm still a little rusty, but it's coming back to me.
I'm quite curious what you plans for the blog are since I noticed you just started it.
Best,
Tim
